Karina's First Love (Music)

Back in April a new R&B superstar was introduced to the rest of the world, and drew comparisons from Alicia Keys to Lauren Hill. She released her first single “16 @ War” which hit the spot early but didn’t see much success, which was written by Terius Nash (The-Dream) and expresses the hardships, trials and tribulations from a sixteen year old point of view. The lyrics are extremely emotional but because of its repetitiveness, it makes it slightly annoying. Because the song didn’t hit to well, the record label released the second single “Can’t find the words” as a free single on iTunes for the week of June 16th which if anyone knows that is the ultimate promotion for a new artist. The album starts off with a bang. Karina is letting it be known that she’s a 90’s baby but she knows how to move crowds of all ages. There are highlights everywhere on the album, with love song and motivational songs the subject of the CD. From “The Love We Got” which has a very rhythmatic catchy hook, to “Winner” a symphony and piano filled background that is lavished with Karina’s smooth vocals. Karina should feel good about this song because it’s a winner. Just like the album started with a bang it ends with one as well. “Slow Motion” is the “Piano and I” song, which features the best vocals on the albums and finds Karina singing way above her age. The lyrics are okay, finding her trying to take this love in slow motion. “Can’t Bring Me Down” which was used in various demo’s of Karina’s to get her a record deal is the best song on the album. The track features brave, emotion, and raging lyrics as Karina sings “I’m raging with fire/I’ll aim at the sky”. The albums’ title track is almost like an ode to old school R&B. It finds Karina singing about her first love (music), and doing it well and it shows on this track. Bottom line no matter what critics and fans say, “First Love” is the best R&B album thus far for 2008, and it’s done by a seventeen year old! The sales may not be there next week, but the quality is. She has vocals

This girl has a voice. I'm feeling that slow motion and first love. Her voice is mature and when singing those songs you forget she's 16. She's young and can play the piano....she's going places. I prefer her singing slow songs.
