Until now, Flavours was only available as the bonus offering of a deluxe four-disc box set from Austrian electro chanteuse (and actress) Madita. This nine-track collection has five previously unreleased and rare recordings, as well as four remixes of songs from her three preceding studio albums. It starts with “Lola,” a simmering and sultry number where her smoky voice hovers over a backdrop blending electronic ambience with an organic, jazzy ensemble. Fans of David Lynch soundtracks and Portishead will feel right at home here. The blissful “Unspoken” follows with a more cosmopolitan cool, as she sings in a higher register over French-flavored melodica and a gradually rising drum and bass pattern. “Miracle” takes a minimal approach to her songcraft, layering delayed bass notes over spare piano touches and a watery ambience. This leaves Madita with plenty of room to explore dynamic vocal tracking; she juxtaposes an upfront lead vocal with distorted backing parts in the periphery, creating alluring sonic dimensions. The Cay Taylan remix of “Mood” shifts gears to create a stylish dance floor jam.
Just love this girl ... hard to put her in a catagory ... how bout James Bond music...
