iTunes Review

Jamaica's influence looms large over Nightmares on Wax's fifth studio album, from the wall of speakers on the cover to the dubby atmospheres that color the UK producer's laidback collages. On "The Sweetest," rootsy basslines and splashes of organs are supple and spacious; "Flip Ya Lid" swims in glancing guitar chords and slapback delay. But reggae is just the starting point. "Pudpots" pairs boom bap breaks with screeching horn stabs, and the falsetto-led "I Am You" looks to '60s soul, while "Deep Down" flirts with Latin salsa.

In the misdst of all the unimaginative over-produced crap out there, this was a welcome 'find'...heard it while hanging in the lounge area on vacation and the vibes on all the tracks seemlessly integrate and help create a cool, chill mood with interest and depth. Def. Worth the price of a glass af wine...enjoy.

Damn...now this is a good listen!!!

Wow...love this - completely chills you out - and a nice variety of melodies - recently got their "Smoker's Delight" CD and that was good, but I like this one is better. All the way through, just a total solid listen with no filler. Perfect for post-party chilling out to, nice casual dinner party with hip friends, great to drive to (totally chilled me out) - just get it...great stuff! Too bad more American's can't get into this stuff instead of awful disposable Top 40 music. This stuff is GREAT!

You need to hear this!

I first heard TheSweetest on KCRW in LosAngeles and I immediately bought it on iTunes. It became in instant classic and something I listen to atleast once a week. Great for chilling at home or trying to chill out from a stressful day at work (something I do often). Take a listen and enjoy!

Originally the combined project of George Evelyn and Kevin "Boywonder" Harper -- the latter of whom was eventually replaced by Robin Taylor-Firth -- Nightmares on Wax became one of the brightest spots on the post-rave British techno map of the early '90s. NoW's debut album, A Word of Science, was -- along with early tracks by LFO, Tuff Little Unit, and Tricky Disco -- a crucial bridge between the competing influences of New York house and electro, Detroit techno and soul, London rave and acid, and...
