Editors’ Notes

A longstanding New York emcee who's been steadily making hits since the late '90s as a member of The LOX/D-Block, Styles P is nothing if not consistent. In the face of changing production techniques and assorted industry trends, he's never abandoned his hardcore Yonkers thug mentality, satisfying his core fanbase while paying no attention to modern rap fads such as techno beats, emo singing, or wannabe-nerd rambling. Following up last year's effort The World's Most Hardest MC Project, he connects with sample-heavy producer Scram Jones on Float, serving up a cool dozen tracks mostly about remorseless murder ("Bodies in the Basement"), his personal proclivities ("I Need Weed"), and the uselessness of haters ("Screw Y'all"). Scram's edgy, intrinsically East Coast beats are a perfect match for P's streetwise lyricism; we also get choice collaborations with his D-Block brethren Jadakiss and Sheek Louch, plus fellow New York icons N.O.R.E. and Raekwon.

Styles Never Disappoints

I Never Like Scram Jones Like That As A Producder But He Did His Thang On This LP. Some Tracks I Wasn't Feeling The Production Tho But Overall Soild. The Typical Styles P, Bars After Bars, Real Ni**a Ish But It's Always Good Cause That Mainstream Ish Gets Boring & Played Out. If Your A Fan Of D-Block Or L.O.X, The Golden Era Of Hip-Hop, Street Person Or Wanna Some Good Ol' Classic Yonkers Music, Buy This

Strongly associated with his group the LOX (aka D-Block), Styles managed a sporadic solo career on the side. Born David Styles on November 28, 1974, in Queens and raised in Yonkers, he united with childhood friends Jadakiss and Sheek to form the LOX in 1994. The trio went on to sign with Puff Daddy's record label, Bad Boy. The LOX guested on numerous Bad Boy-affiliated songs and even recorded an album of their own, Money, Power & Respect (1998), which yielded a hit single of the same name. The LOX...
