A very polished Mr Levy

Howard offers up a very mature collection of tunes on this recording, highlighting his mastery of diverse styles from straight ahead jazz to freeform improv to blues to samba and beyond. Playing both the harmonica and piano on these songs, in some cases simultaneously, Howard reveals his remarkable talent as multi-instrumentalist yet at the same time manages to craft an entire album's worth of original and highly memorable tunes that are on par with or even beyond some of the best material of his long career, including the Flecktones years. In fact I enjoy this album far more than Rocket Science, which seems a bit too intent on rekindling the past at the expense of Howard's expanding talents as a more serious-minded songwriter.
