A hopeful introduction

The technique is amazing, and he's not just playing fast, he's playing interesting stuff fast (really really fast). But is this an artistic statement? Is it satisfying to listen to? Why jump from style to style without any segue? What is he saying to us? He's saying: "Look, notice me, I can play as fast as you can imagine, and then faster. I can play stride, Bebop, Bop, Funk, introspective, a little outside, whatever. I can play absolutely anything, any style, without physical limitations." That is an artistic statement of it's own, and I respect it. I enjoy it, for a while (not the whole album at once). I look forward to hearing Eldar settle into a groove, and let the music speak for itself, through him, rather than hearing him speak (yell?) through the music. This maturity will come, hopefully, and then his albums will be lasting artistic statements about the world, not just autobiographies.

Anyone who loves great music, great jazz, enjoys Oscar Peterson, should give this one a listen!
