iTunes Review

Sepalcure's 2011 debut shaped current bass trends into a rich, balanced record. Five years, rather than play around with 2016's deep sounds, Machinedrum and Braille revisit that territory with tasteful takes on dubstep, garage and footwork. There are idiosyncratic chopped vocals on “Not Gonna Make It” and “No Honey”, while Rochelle Jordan provides a seductive turn on the soft R&B of “Fight For Us”.

Back with a welcome evolution

There’s this kind of music; sexy-sexy bass music with a psychedelic dubby edge. This is the kind of music I love most, and Sepalcure do this style best, in my opinion. Starting early on with Burial and Rhythm & Sound, I was well ready to hear them when they released their first EP. Since then they have continued to cover new territory each release, while keeping their solid center of sexy dubby goodness. Some of these tracks go in a slightly more “pop” direction (well really more like R&B), and it’s a great contrast to the other, more heady material on the album. Strongly recommend this, for fans of Machinedrum, Braille, Hotflush, or just sexy bass music in general. If you’re a bloke, your girlfriend may like it even more than you do. Bravo.

A beautiful mix

Soulful, smooth and dancey - a seemingly difficult balance to pull off but in this case it's accomplished with sincerity and in a way that keeps one element from overshadowing the other. Definitely an album to put on repeat!

Sepalcure are a garage/dubstep duo featuring Praveen Sharma (aka Praveen, Braille) and Travis Stewart (aka Syndrone, Machinedrum). Sharma and Stewart debuted in 2010 on the Hotflush label, home to releases by Mount Kimbie and Joy Orbison, with the four-track Love Pressure EP. The lead track was the highlight, based on scuffy percussion, texture washes, and alternately emotive and goofy cut-up vocal samples. Several months after another exceptional and atmospheric four-track Hotflush 12” (issued in...
