A Solid Effort

Some of the songs on the debut album, a couple of new ones. This type of work is right up Clint Lowery's alley - if you don't know how great he is, check out Sevendust's acoustic "Southside Doublewide". Dark New Day has talent and are a great live band, it would be a shame is they stay lost among all of the other active rock bands around right now. It's pretty calm, but this is worth your six bucks.

Excellent Acoustic EP!

A little over a year after the band released there debut disc, 12 Year Silence, they unleash Dark Porch Acoustic Sessions, a stripped down, full band unplugged style ep with a string section. The disc opens with a new song 'Breakdown,' and heads into the bands first single, 'Brother' which is reworked a bit, no screaming like the original, and more vocal harmonization. 'Evergreen' also features some great vocal harmonies. Everyone in this band sings, it's great. 'Follow The Sun Down' is a killer track which also features a string accompaniment and tight vocal harmonies between the whole band in the chorus. 'Free' has a great driving chorus with thoughtful lyrics and a soaring bridge section. The disc closes with 'Storm,' another new track and the first single from the Dark Porch Acoustic Sessions. One listen and you can easily see why it's the single. The band takes turns in duets; very different, but very cool. -matt

Dark New Day Does It Again

What happens when you put five great musicians in one room? You get Dark New Day. I was fortunate enough to check out an acoustic set these guys did in Boston last year & I was very impressed. Black Porch Acoustic Sessions is just an example of how tight these guys are unplugged. Check out the vocal melodies in Storm. WOW. I was rather displeased with the lack of airplay 12 Year Silence got, being that is was easily one of the best albums to come out in 2005. Hopefully this album will reach out to new listeners who can also understand the greatness this band is destined for.

Dark New Day formed in early 2005 and was quickly billed as a supergroup for the active rock set, since its membership came from various name-brand acts. Clint Lowery (guitar/vocals) had been a cofounder of Sevendust, while his brother Corey Lowery (bass) had played in Stuck Mojo and Stereomud; guitarist Troy McLawhorn was a veteran of Doubledrive, and vocalist/guitarist Brett Hestla had been in Virgos Merlot before becoming the touring bassist for Creed. Will Hunt had drummed for acts like Skrape...
