EDITORS’ NOTES

Genesis are uniquely blessed with two deep-smoked tenors in Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. Their streamlined, melodic ‘80s sound derives equally from soul and their years creating twisty prog rock in the early ‘70s, underpinned by pugnacious drums (“Mama”) and pounding synths (“Abacab”). Saving their skronk chops for making angry musical points (“Land of Confusion”), their most emotional songs are tender and mature, taking them from the languid guitar spangles of “Follow You Follow Me” to the beefier “Invisible Touch,” led by Collins’ longing sincerity.

CARPET CRAWLERS!!!

I am not a big fan of Genesis after the departure of Hackett, although Man on the Corner is a great piece of work and many of the other songs are good.
I LOVE the older Genesis, however, and was thrilled to come across this new rendition of Carpet Crawlers! Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett collaborated with Phil, Michael, & Tony to create a great version of a terrific tune. Now I have three distinct and worthwhile versions (including Lamb & Seconds Out).
Just to let other like-minded fans know, check out Steve Hackett's latest work...renditions of Supper's Ready, Lamia, Blood on the Rooftops, & Entangled are SUPERB.
