Editors’ Notes

Kurt Cobain’s death signaled the end for Nirvana. No one expected its drummer, Dave Grohl, to leave his kit behind and front one of the most successful hard rock groups of the next decade. Yet that’s exactly what happened. Grohl’s pop sense has proven strong, drawing from the heavy but hummable roots of the Descendents and Hüsker Dü and taking them to modern rock heights. His strong sense of humor, evident in the band’s videos, pushes aside the dark, mournful tones of grunge for the evergreen pop hooks of “Everlong,” “My Hero,” “Learn to Fly” and “The Pretender.” Foo Fighters began as a solo project (“This Is a Call,” “Big Me”) with a self-titled debut album recorded at home with Grohl as its only member. Other members were signed up in order to pull off live shows and Grohl has never looked back. This retrospective includes two new cuts, the Tom Petty Americana of “Wheels” (Grohl played drums for Petty’s Heartbreakers) and the acoustic-to-electric anthem power of “Word Forward,” plus an acoustic version of “Everlong.”

Customer Reviews

Greatest Hits... Are these guys finally getting old?

One of the greatest modern day rock bands to roam the stage, the Foo Fighters have finally released a greatest hits! I remember Dave saying in an interview that they had avoided doing this because it usually marks the twilight of a band's career...

Who knows?

They are still one of the greats and every track that is on this album deserves to be, and the live performances really stand out. "All my Life" really is my personal fav. Get this if you are an ultimate fan, even if you already have every album. Otherwise this is simply a great collection of great music to own.

EPIC

Foo Fighters have thrown together all of their best songs for a journey down their 15 years as one of the most famous rock bands around. Prepared to be blown away if you buy.

OMG GUYS

im going to quote something that dave grohl said about the setlist for this album. "these 16 songs are what were calling our greatest hits. not to be confused with "our best songs" or "our favorite songs", its a collection of the songs that have defined our bands indentity to most people over the years. the other 65 album tracks...... well, some of those might be our bet songs. "aurora", "new way home", "MIA", "exhausted", "A320"..... depends on whom you ask. personally, i dont think weve written our greatest songs yet. but that door is always open" so guys there is a reason they left out those other great songs!!!! so stop complaining

Biography

Formed: 1995 in Seattle, WA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

When Foo Fighters released a debut album written and recorded entirely by leader Dave Grohl -- at that point known only as the powerhouse drummer for Nirvana -- in the summer of 1995, few would have guessed that the group would wind up as the one band to survive the '90s alt-rock explosion unscathed. Other bands burned brighter but they flamed out, breaking up after scoring a hit or two, while the Foos steadily racked up success after success, filling stadiums around the world while staying on top...
