Album Review

When the A-Teens came out in 2000 with an album full of remakes of ABBA songs, the quartet of photogenic young Swedes had a nice run up the charts. If anything, the group was a testament to the lasting power of ABBA's sugary but lush pop music. This time around, instead of blatantly ripping off ABBA, they choose to emulate the trademark sound of ubiquitous Swedish pop super-producer Max Martin, who has been responsible for writing and producing hits for *N Sync, Britney Spears, and the Backstreet Boys. Most of the songs on the album are right out of the Martin handbook, complete with cookie-cutter rhythm tracks and lyrics, and lightweight, electronically enhanced harmonies.

Play-By-Play of Teen Spirit

I first heard this album in the summer of 2002, when my friend's apartment owner had left it there for her. I officially bought the CD in 2004 at $1.99 from the Salvation Army (I was there looking for vintage stuff) is my famous Bouncing Off the Ceiling (Upside Down)- This was basically the only hit off this album, and mostly it was just played on Radio Disney. You even still hear it occasionally on Radio Disney. ...To the Music- I like the song, though it does get kind of tiring after a while. Halfway Around The World- Definitely a great song. I dance around my bathroom while I'm brushing my teeth to this....i think that the chorus is the best part in this song. Firefly-This song really does not fall into any's not really so fast that you can dance fluently to it, but it's not slow by any means. There are some parts that you can pull off Christina-esque dance moves at, though :) Sugar Rush- This was a huge controversy, because the band Dream Street and A*Teens both recorded this song around the same time. Dream Street's was released SLIGHTLY earlier, in July of 2001, i think. Which do you think is better? I think the Dream Street one is better. Rockin'-I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!! I think it was the first song that I ever heard off this album. It has a great beat, and it's just a good song! Around the Corner of Your Eye- Aww! It's our first slow song! The beginning DOES NOT sound very promising, but as the song progresses, it really does become a good song. The vocals are true to the song, and the lyrics are typical of that era that this was produced. Slammin' Kinda Love- Alright, back to the fast songs! This also a dance-ish song, like Rockin' (although Rockin' is easier to dance to simply because of all the irregular beats in this song). The vocals are solid in this song, though it is a bit overproduced with all the sound effects, in my opinion. All My Love- Personally, I don't like this song. I have NO idea why...maybe it is just because it's not anything special for the A*Teens. For All That I Am- Another FANTASTIC song! There is a lot of produced sounds in this song, but it fits into the structure and feel of the song. If you buy any (faster-ish) song on this album, Buy THIS one. That's What (It's All About)- The beginning sounds a bit like Britney to me...but anyway, I think this is a great song, but it really doesn't fit the A*Teen's real sound that they have established for themselves... Morning Light- I like this song, but in my opinion the lyrics are kind of stupid. Back For More- This is a great pick-me-up...i used to listen to this late at night, and, again, dance around my bathroom while I was brushing my teeth. Don't Even Know Your Name- BEST SONG EVER!!!!!!! This IS the best song on the album!!!!!! I know that this has applied to every teenage girl in their lifetime (for me MANY times...) and everything about this song is good. Hopefully, this hasn't been too hard on your eyes to read, and I hope that you found this helpful!

Still Captures My Teen Spirit

I had this album before I*Tunes ever even existed. WOW I am Old... SO I was 17 when this album came out and I used to rock out with "That's What It's All About" on my way to High School. Every song is packed with pop beats that makes Britney and N'Sync look like ameatures. This album is for anyone who, like me, long for that awesome pop music of the 1998-2001 pop era. They had two more albums after this and I hope ITunes puts them on here!!!!

Über-ABBA tribute A*Teens assembled Stockholm, Sweden-based adolescents Marie Serneholt, Sara Lumholdt, Dhani Lennevald, and Amit Paul. Beginning work on their debut album The ABBA Generation in 1998, two years later the group topped the European charts with their cover of "Mamma Mia," achieving the feat exactly a quarter of a century after the original ABBA hit number one with their own rendition of the song. The aforementioned LP contains similarly modernized renditions of ABBA classics like "Dancing...
