Editors’ Notes

The Bulletboys and their brand of groove-heavy pop-metal had a star-turning moment on radio and MTV in the late ’80s and early ’90s. They left enough of a footprint to maintain a stateside cult following. Here, they offer up different versions of their big hit (“Smooth Up in Ya”) and the contenders (“THC Groove,” “Hard as Rock”), and they add a plethora of surprisingly great covers. You’ll likely never find another album that sees a hard rock Tom Waits cover (the sturdy “Hang on St. Christopher”) sidle up to one by Ted Nugent (“Stranglehold”). The Bulletboys' unironic take of Journey’s “Faithfully” is worth the price alone.

Could be better - Good source for obscure songs

You should know up front that these are not the original BulletBoys recordings but recently recorded remakes. The quality is not the best, but you get a different spin on the BBoys classic hits. The main reason to buy this CD is that you get all the Marq Torein songs from the various "tribute" CDs he has appeared on. Instead of having to track them all down, they are here in one place (Geez! I sound like a Time Life commercial!) The highlights on this CD are the cover versions of the Ted Nugent tune Stranglehold, Bon Jovi's "Living On A Prayer", and (gasp!) Mr. Misters' "Broken Wings". Without a doubt, the best song on the CD is the bare bones cover of the Journey standard "Faithfully". Marq's vocals may not compare to Steve Perry's, but Marq brings a passion to the tune that you cannot deny. The biggest surprise on the CD is a cover of Amy Winehouse's "Rehab". While the songs is OK is nonetheless seems out of place on this disc. Buy this CD - Enjoy it for what it is, but if you're expecting the BulletBoys in all their bombastic glory you will be disappointed.

You do or you Dont

Led by former Ratt guitarist Marq Torien, the L.A. metal band Bulletboys also included ex-King Kobra guitarist Mick Sweda, bassist Lonnie Vincent, and drummer Jimmy d'Anda. Their style was strongly influenced by bands such as AC/DC and Van Halen, later going in a bluesier direction. Torien's personality often drew comparisons to David Lee Roth. The group had a couple of MTV hits off their self-titled debut but faded away after their second...
