Awesome!

If Addicted To Pain is a glimpse of what this album is going to be, then it's going to be epic!! Of course, aren't all Alter Bridge albums epic?!

Best Rock Album in at least a decade

Let me just say this, every one of Alter Bridge's album are excellent and stand far above commercial successes such as the Foo Fighters in every aspect including technical, lyrical, vocal performances. In my opinion, Fortress has surpassed all of AB's prior album and should be considered a must have by every rock/metal fan. Myles' vocal and guitar performances are legendary on this album. In years to come, people will be talking about Myles as their influence, he is just that good. Tremonti delivers startling and pounding riffs and melodies as only he can. Mark Tremonti is a modern day guitar god. Unfortunately, the modern pop synthesized world of music will probably never recognize this guy is today's Hendrix or Van Halen, albeit with heavier metal roots. This album should crush all competition in the awards this year. You must have this album, all of the other albums and see these guys live many times.

Just to summarize, Alter Bridge is the Rock Band of the Decade. Despite all of their label problems, these guys bring it on tour and on the records.

My Favorite tracks are Cry of Achilles, Bleed it Dry, Calm the Fire... screw it, all of them are amazing for their individual characteristics. Get this Album Now and crank it!!

Good, not great...

I'm probably one of the few reviewers on here who laments the more melodic and triumphant sound from One Day Remains & Blackbird. While I can truly appreciate the band's right to choose their own sound, to me it's just a shame that they've adopted a sound that has already saturated hard rock. To me, they made two nearly perfect albums on their first two attempts together. The smooth, yet ultimately powerful melodies of they're earlier songs like Open Your Eyes, Down To My Last, Rise Today, and Before Tomorrow Comes are much less prevalent on Fortress.

There was a glimpse of this new sound on AB III, but even on that album Make It Right & Breathe Again shone through as powerful examples of the heights that Alter Bridge was capable of. Now on their latest album, Fortress, Alter Bridge has fully embraced this much harsher tone. In the place of those soaring songs of triumph are much more aggressive and unwelcoming songs with mild flashes of what made Alter Bridge so unique; and ultimately a much more powerful band.

I still enjoy this different sound but it just seems like they are so much more effective and commanding as they sounded on their first two albums.

3/5 stars. Good, not great.

Biography

Formed: January, 2004 in Orlando, FL

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Alter Bridge resurrected the music-making portion of Creed. After that band's 2004 dissolution, guitarist Mark Tremonti and drummer Scott Phillips tapped ousted bassist Brian Marshall for the new project. Ex-Mayfield Four frontman Myles Kennedy was soon on board as well, and Alter Bridge made their Wind-Up debut in August 2004 with One Day Remains. Written largely by Tremonti, the record tried to lean more toward a hard rock/metal sound than the post-grunge grandstanding of his previous group. After...
