Don't miss out on this one!!

For some reason, this album got lost somewhere before Muddy's resurgence with Johnny Winter. This album is extremely relaxed, but not sloppy (i.e. "The Super Blues Band"). Muddy plays his slide (like only he can) on two of the tracks, “Born with Nothing” and "Love, Deep As The Ocean". The jump blues covers of Louis Jordan's "Caldonia", and "Let the Good Times Roll" and "Kansas City" are extremely refreshing to hear as they sound new and Muddy truly makes them his. The work by Levon Helm and Garth Hudson from the Band as well as Paul Butterfield, and the incomparable Pinetop Perkins (who shares the vocals on "Kansas City") is superb. This 1975 album was Muddy's last on Chess Records and won a Grammy award for "Best Ethnic or Traditional Recording" PLEASE buy this album if you all ready own all the essential Muddy work from the plantation and from the 50's to mid 60's and spread the word about this little forgotten album with the album art which perfectly captures the time period in which it was made.

I went home and checked this CD out from the library, and I was awed by this album. It's the only Muddy I've heard so far, but it's a really good start, in my opinion.

Sweet Album

This is my only Muddy album so far. Born with nothing and Caldonia are the two best. Muddy was one of the best of that era. If you love deep blues and such purchase this album!

Muddy Waters was the single most important artist to emerge in post-war American blues. A peerless singer, a gifted songwriter, an able guitarist, and leader of one of the strongest bands in the genre (which became a proving ground for a number of musicians who would become legends in their own right), Waters absorbed the influences of rural blues from the Deep South and moved them uptown, injecting his music with a fierce, electric energy and helping pioneer the Chicago Blues style that would come...
