Beautiful Debut Album
I had the pleasure of hearing Francesca dePasquale and Meng-Chieh Liu perform almost all of this album live last night at the WCR Center in Reading Pennsylvania. The Bach Partita started the evening (and also this album) as a wonderful solo showcase of Ms. Pasquale's virtuosity and the beautiful tone she gets from her instrument. Immediately following this (both last night and on the album) she is joined by Mr. Liu for Messian's theme and variations for violin and piano, composed in 1932 as a wedding present for Messian's first wife. The soulful lyrical interaction of both players reflects the emotion with which the piece was no doubt written. There are other fine tracks to listen to on this album as well, but I will simply say that the overall impression I am left with is just how much beautiful music can come from two instruments played from the heart by two gifted performers.
