Album Review

Possessing one of the most recognizable voices in the history of modern pop, a high, soaring falsetto, Frankie Valli and his vocals sparked a series of big hits for the Four Seasons in the 1960s, and although Valli's solo career didn't quite achieve the same continuous heights, he scored big with the timeless love ballad "My Eyes Adored You," which is included in this brief set of Valli solo material.

What do you mean, not originals?

There is some treatment to the dance versions here like Big Girs Don't Cry and December 1963, however the originals are here as well. Sherry, Stay, Marlena and Who Loves You are originals. Gypsy Woman is a cover and Book Of Love is the unedited version from the Streetfighter album. Anyone who knows pop music knows that the December 1963 dance version is one of three versions that found it's way around the radio stations in the 70's and 90's. Well worth a purchase for seasons fans as well as music fans.

Not quite "new" recordings

Just to clarify, these aren't newly-recorded versions of their songs. The vocals are all the originals; they just took the instrumental tracks and re-recorded "dance mixes" in place of them. Rather dated-sounding but I've actually heard the "dance mix" version of "December 1963 (Oh What a Night) on the radio before.

Roughly speaking, "Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons" is the billing given to the Four Seasons after the group's 1960s heyday, as lead singer Valli became more prominent and personnel changes began to reduce the others to his backup band. In practice, the two billings can be interchangeable; many compilations containing the group's '60s hits as well as Valli solo recordings are credited to Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons as well.
