iTunes Editors’ Notes

For Freak Puke, The Melvins have undergone a slight name change to Melvins Lite, since the album features just Buzz Osbourne, Dale Crover, and upright bassist Trevor Dunn. However, there's nothing "lite" about the material, unless you think that Crover using brushes on a track or two indicates a let-up in the group's approach. Tracks like "Baby, Won't You Weird Me Out," "Worm Farm Waltz," and "Leon vs. the Revolution" feature all the guitar crunch and drum-pounding that have made The Melvins a perfect bridge between punk and old-school, Sabbath-bred heavy metal. The cover of Paul McCartney & Wings' "Let Me Roll It" (the former Beatle's nod to his longtime friend and sometimes nemesis John Lennon) captures the savage energy always lurking within the tune. The nearly 10-minute "Tommy Goes Berserk" might be too much for most fans, but the relative conciseness of the rest of the album brings out the power and glory of one of alternative rock's longest-running bands.

Greatest Band Ever!

There is plenty of "rock" on this album along with the weirdness that true fans have come to expect from the Melvins. Another masterpiece from a band that refuses to compromise and continues to do things their way. One of the few bands out there that continue to challenge themselves (and their fans) after almost 30 years. Awesome!

Again, Melvin's prove to be the hardest working band in the business. Between King Buzzo and Dale Crover constantly creating dynamic and extraordinary music combinations, they are by far the best band of all time. It would be impossible for them to create anything other than exceptionally great music.

The Melvins do it again!

The Melvins have done it again. Showing an amazing amount of growth in their last few albums, Freak Puke is far easier on the ears than some of their earlier work, and though a die-hard melvins fan like myself loved those early albums, some newer to that classic "Melvins sound" may not have the same appreciation for those rougher albums. Freak Puke however delves into the same melodic-metal sound that we saw in their "Bulls and the Bees EP" and their amazing "Nude with Boots" album. All in all its an amazing piece of music.
