Album Review

With subject matter somehow outdoing both the performances and recording quality in terms of crudeness (no mean feat), Freaks, F****ts, Drunks & Junkies may be the definitive G.G. Allin album, if for no other reason than that it marks the first appearance of many Allin songs that have since been endlessly repackaged on compilations and live recordings. Allin jumps unpredictably from discussions of drugs, violence, and excretory functions to sexual fetishes ranging from the simply degrading to rape, pedophilia, and "anti social masterbation" [sic]. Most intentionally shocking stuff like this comes off as forced and stupid, but the defective Allin's obvious instability renders it unforced and stupid. Tunes like "Die When You Die," "Last in Line for the Gang Bang," "Young Little Meat," "Suck My Ass It Smells," and signature song "Outlaw Scumfuc" are enough to shake anyone's faith in humanity down to its very foundations. Allin's entire output ranks as perhaps the worst music ever recorded; this is its clearest expression.

GG Allin is punk rock! Not mall rock! Not hot topic!

GG Allin is everything punk rock is supposed to be. Crass, obnoxious, loud, cussin, spittin, screaming, anti-authoritarian, and meant to shock the hell out everyone. This music is supposed to be bad, rude, sexist, and just plain horrible. GG set out with a plan to be the worst musician in the world, and he got first, second, and third place. Punk rock is not a hairstyle, or a spiked bracelet, or having a boyfriend that skates. Sorry hipsters, punk rock isn't even a tattoo. It's a state of mind and either you have it or you don't. And if you have to wonder if you have it, you definately don't have it. I remember back in the early 80's, if you had a skateboard, a hole in your shirt, uncombed hair, and converse all stars as opposed to jordans, people were terrified. Now when you see a 13 year old dressed like sid vicious or exploited or whatever, it's just plain darling.

Purely offensive and classless

GG was king

Alright, you mohawked skaters. As much as you deny it, the only reason you listen to this is cause you think it's punk. Me and other true rock and rollers listen to this because we actually want a revolution and believe what GG was saying, not cause we want to be punk.

To some, G.G. Allin was the ultimate symbol of rock & roll rebellion, taking it to extremes that no one else was dangerous enough to explore. To others, he was a lunatic whose attempts to shock and disgust were too ham-fisted to be taken seriously. Wherever the truth lay, there can be no doubt that Allin was the most spectacular degenerate in rock & roll history. Music was almost incidental to his violent, scatological stage act, which got him arrested over 50 times for a litany of offenses, and...
