iTunes Review

From the band’s earliest known recordings to the multicolored layers of the psychedelic era on through to lo-fi demos and rooftop concerts, the Anthology Box Set provides a deeper understanding of that Fab Four magic. This set contains all three of the Anthology collections. You’ll also find material that remained unreleased for nearly three decades, such as the 1994 recordings based on John Lennon’s late ’70s demos and restructured by Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr (“Real Love,” “Free As a Bird”).

Good

Get the whole thing if you love the beatles as much as me. If you don't get real love and free as a bird. Best two songs.

More Interesting, Than Great

I love the Beatles (and Owl City!) but this set is probably too much of a good thing. The highlights are there, I especially love the Strawberry Fields Demo, the stripped down version of Something and some of the live cuts like You've Really Got a Hold On Me. A lot of the rest are interesting outtakes, none of them really comparing to the official versions released elsewhere. Fun, at times but steep for the price.

Paul's Little Snippets

I find myself laughing uncontrollably with my girlfriend over Paul and John's little comments before and after a lot of the White Album tracks! Anthology makes such a multi-dimensional band that much more interesting. One can tell how much care Paul, George, and Ringo put into selecting these tracks. The only downside for me is that they couldn't manage to record a sufficient version of "Now And Then," a Lennon composition that would've graced the third Anthology release. Also, "Carnival of Light" and "Revolution Take 20" weren't released on this set, which is a shame. Still an amazing set to listen to.

Biography

Formed: 1957 in Liverpool, England

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s

So much has been said and written about the Beatles -- and their story is so mythic in its sweep -- that it's difficult to summarize their career without restating clichés that have already been digested by tens of millions of rock fans. To start with the obvious, they were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century. Moreover, they were among the few artists of any discipline that were simultaneously...
