Very Solid Choice

I have been listening to this album for over a year and a half and it still does not disappoint. I was very surprised to hear the depth of these grooves after finding out a little about the band, an almost totally white band, from Northern California, with a good number of the members having jazz roots. I expected a studied imitation of Roots, but that's not what I got. This band stands on its own, and the songs are melodic and deep at the same time. The jazz influences, heard primarily in the keyboard and horn work, serve to articulate the sound, and never sound out of place, a credit to the players. The album is definitely worth purchasing and checking out, whether you are new to reggae or have been listening for a number of years as I have. It is the band's best effort to date, and is a much better album than their release after this one (Not yet listed) which, in my view suffers from overambitious backing vocals. So check it out, and if you like the sounds, buy the dub version called "Dub Wars" (I think) A real nice dub mix of some rock solid work.

One of the best reggae albums EVER!

Don't doubt it! These guys can law it down like no one else. They are truely the best reggae band around today. As if that's not enough they throw in some vocals by Cedric "Congo" Myton. Listen for yourself, these tracks will sell themselves! Listen to "Freedom Taking Over" or "Undivided". And the best part - all their cds are this good!

This is an excellent album!!!

I think Groundation is nothing short of awesome! I love all their stuff but if I HAD to choose which one of their CD's I could take with me on a deserted island, it would definitely be Hebron Gate! The music itself is great, and combined with some very poignant messages, this is just an excellent reggae album. Check it out!!!
