Customer Reviews

For B-sides, this is still pretty good stuff.

annuals are my favorite band, so perhaps i'm a little partial when it comes to their music. that being said, there is still a lot of great stuff on this album. with some tracks, it's easy to see why they didn't make the album cut: the ending is a little too long, the sound wouldn't have fit in with the rest of the record, it sounds like another (better) song. however, the songs that comprise this record are still evidence of a fantastic band (now possibly with more honed songwriting skills). the first two songs have the same joyful exuberance as the others on 'be he me,' so it's easy to see how they work together. the other six songs diverge in their own ways, expanding on annuals' already unique sound in fairly different directions. particularly compelling are the dark pulling rhythms of 'such a mess' and the virtuosic guitar solo on 'ease my mind.' 'river run' and 'nah keseyi' are fairly standard annuals-stuck-in-your-head tracks, with fun choruses to shout along to. 'sewn to kites' and 'frelen mas' take a more balladic direction with an emphasis on vocal melodies and harmonies while retaining the urgency that compels you to listen. overall, this is a good collection of throwaway tracks and definitely worth your pennies. standout tracks are 'ease my mind,' 'river run,' 'nah keseyi,' and their very different spin on 'swing low sweet chariot.'

b-sides are by my side

So it looks like the Annuals have done it again. They have captured what music really is. I dont think that there is a person that could not like this EP. You may have to listen to it a few times through but with each listen you will love it more and more. If you are questioning whether to buy this or not the answer is YES, BUY IT! If you don't like it I would be happy to give you refund because i am so confident that you will like it. Well.....just buy it and have a good time. Annuals can be listened to at any time. You can listen to them while in bed and it will relax you or you could listen to them while flippin out in your car. It is that powerful of music. Sincerely, Annuals Lova

Excellent Work!

Simply put, Annuals produces amazing tunes. I really got into "Ease My Mind" - light jam with a lot of energy building and building. The version of "Misty Coy" is worth a listen - more surreal and does have a "misty" feel. I also enjoyed their take on "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" - not an original but definitely an Annuals tune; they made it their own. Calling these B Sides does them disservice: Frelen Mas is certainly a good buy & supplement to Be He Me.

Singer/songwriter Adam Baker, guitarist Kenny Florence, bassist Mike Robinson, guitarist Zack Oden, pianist Anna Spence, and drummer Nick Radford create the orchestrated, expansive indie rock of North Carolina's Annuals. With the addition of Oden, Spence, and Radford, the musical collective was properly born in 2004. Annuals' spunky energy drew influence...
