Album Review

For the millions of fans who have made John Michael Montgomery a major country music star, and who probably already own most (if not all) of the eight albums from which this best-of is drawn, the main appeal of this album will be functional: it pulls together a disproportionate number of the power ballads for which he is justly famous, making this a heartland makeout record of considerable utility. (It also features two previously unreleased power ballads, "Cool" and "One Day Less.") Not every song here is a heart-tugging love song, but most of them are, and those are the best ones. Lyrically, this stuff is exquisitely predictable: she's strong, life goes on, she thinks he's wonderful even though he's just a regular guy, she's his best friend, they've been through some tough times and now he loves her more than ever, love can move a mountain, etc. But to complain about that would be to miss the point; mainstream country music is about meeting expectations, not confounding them, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. That said, there are one or two mild surprises, such as the unusually complex and soulful "Angel in My Eyes" and the Alison Krauss/Dan Tyminski cameo on the tearjerking "Little Girl." They're not surprising enough to be a problem, though. Recommended.

Love Him

John Singing is awsome. I love all his songs. All he needs is a couple of hits to blow his brother (Montgomery Gentry) out f the water. I LOVE all his albums. I feel so lucky because i actully got to meet him. He is a nice man. We actully bought his 860 acre farm from him.(In Springfield KY)

The Little Girl

Just listening to the song The Little Girl makes this album amazing! So... before you continue with reading this review, listen or buy the clip of this song... Did you do it yet?... How about now?... Okay, this song is really amazing. Just the whole story is amazing. To get the whole effect, you need to listen with your whole heart into it. It is one of those sad songs that really let you stop in your busy life and think. If you liked this song, then you should try The Christmas Shoes by NewSong. It is a similiar song. It also has the effect of being able to stop your busy day and think about things. I did a presentation for one of my classes. The room was filled with busy teenagers. During my presentation, I played the song. I was able to make everyone quiet, for a first, and really pay attention in class. The whole rest of the day, my peers were telling me how they liked the song. Remember, these are hip-hop and underground rock loving teens who were able to appreciate these wonderful songs. Enjoy! Also, check out Skin! It is another sad song with a story in it, not just a repeating chorus!

This album is by far the best JMM has ever done. If you buy this album there is no reason to buy anything else. Sold is a great song for any country fan. I can love like that and home to you i think are the most romantic songs ever. Every song he made that is worth listening to is on this album why wait? This Album ROCKS.. AND ROLLS

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Part of the '90s wave of honky tonk hitmakers that brought country to new commercial heights, John Michael Montgomery made his name primarily as a romantic balladeer. Yet despite his sometime adult contemporary leanings, his vocal style remained solidly grounded in country tradition. Montgomery was born in 1965 in Danville, KY, near Lexington and learned guitar from his father, a local musician. He first performed in public at age five with his father's band, which also featured his mother on drums....
