9 Songs, 32 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

As on Volume 1, Chris Stapleton took a small band into Nashville's legendary RCA Studio A for this record and cut a batch of organic-sounding tunes overflowing with rootsiness and raw emotion. He lets his country-outlaw side show with the Waylon-esque stomp "Hard Livin'," digs into slow-burning soul on the ballad "Nobody's Lonely Tonight," and comes out guns blazing on the dirty, raging blues-rocker "Midnight Train to Memphis." But whichever way he leans, his well-weathered, uncommonly expressive pipes are always front and center, making an intensely passionate, unfailingly human connection.
