iTunes Editors’ Notes

A major star in Norway, Thomas Dybdahl awaits discovery in the English-speaking world. This collection featuring songs from his previous five albums recorded between 2002 and 2010 gives listeners an idea of just how great this “Norwegian Nick Drake” actually is. Though he never quite reaches Drake’s smoky mastery, he has a sharp ear for melodies and the arrangements throughout are tasteful, showing influences in folk, pop and jazz, with harmonies that do great things. The songs are sung in English. “All’s Not Lost” has great ambition, trading tempos and harmonies while finding its final resting place. “That Great October Sound” is a moody piece highlighted by stand-up bass and an eerie string section. “One Day You’ll Dance For Me, New York City” is a wistful ballad for a songwriter with big dreams. “Pale Green Eyes” comes close to the free-floating folk of Tim Buckley before chasing rainbows that fall near Coldplay. “Rain Down On Me” has a solemn groove that proves him a master of American song forms.

Northern Star

He is the ultimate idol for me. Thomas Dybdahl is a secret that i'd like to keep to myself. But since his US debut Songs (which contains his previous hits from NON-US releases) is out, it'll be a very hard thing to do. Be sure to check him out.

Favs: Rain Down On Me, Dice, It's Always Been You
PS: It's a shame that "U" and "Stay Home" is not included in this best of.

Great Album. Better show!

The album is great but if you want to really catch the energy of these songs, go see them live. The album is a bit watered down compared to the live show which is awesome!

Great songs and beautiful lyrics!

I am so glad itune finally carries his songs. I went to his concert in Copenhagen and am hooked since then. A Love Story, Pale Green Eyes, One Dance You'll Dance For Me, NYC are amount my favorites. I wish itune carried Party Like its 1929.

One of Norway's most popular and acclaimed singer/songwriters, Thomas Dybdahl has gained a growing international following for his elegant and expressive songs of love and loss, which have earned him comparisons to Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley. Born in 1979, Dybdahl first caught the attention of music fans as a guitarist with the funk/acid jazz ensemble Quadraphonics, who had a following in their native Norway and eventually did some touring in Canada and the United States.
