iTunes Review

On From My Mind To Yours, Richie Hawtin's distinct sides as producer and DJ come together for a triumphant return to his Detroit techno roots. For every dance-floor alias he revives (Circuit Breaker’s maximalist synth banger “Systematic,” the subdued, clicky house of Robotman’s “Simple Simon”), there’s an exploratory experimental-techno mind-melter (FUSE’s squiggly, 16-minute “Them,” a drum-machine jam credited to Childsplay). But "Gymnastiks" and "Purrkusiv" are the most thrilling—classic Plastikman drum workouts that bend basslines into rubber bands and make tripped-out thunderstorms of punishing kicks and cracking snares. It’s a seamless club-meets-headphones experience that gives Hawtin's uncompromising ‘90s albums a run for their money.

Amazing return to form!!!

This is the greatest techno comeback story EVER!!! Richie's 90's output is the stuff of legend, mostly under the Plastikman alias. This material harkens back to that illustrious time while still remaining fresh and keeing an eye on the future. If you are too young to have heard it the first time, this is as good of a place to place to start as any. If you loved the early Plastikman albums, you will certainly find no disappointment here. I'd put this up against anything he has ever released. Yes, it's that good.

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Although of English and Canadian origins, Plastikman's Richie Hawtin is closely connected with the Detroit techno scene associated with figures such as Kenny Larkin, Stacey Pullen, Eddie Fowlkes, and Derrick May. His Plus 8 label -- co-owned and operated with John Acquaviva -- is one of the most influential experimental dance music imprints, and Hawtin's own tracks recorded as Plastikman and F.U.S.E. are highly regarded as faithful, intelligent, forward-stepping updates of the Detroit sound.
