iTunes Review

Paul McCartney’s second solo album to feature him playing all the instruments came ten years after the first McCartney solo record. Times had changed but McCartney, curious as ever, plays with the latest technology in his home studio. “Coming Up” is an enthralling piece of modernist pop, as catchy as any pop song he has written. “Temporary Secretary” is a mind-melt of synthetic textures, a delightful piece of Kraftwerk-like ephemera. “Waterfalls” is the chilling ballad that while not as well known as many McCartney songs still stands the test of time. “Nobody Knows” is a catchy barroom rocker. “Summer’s Day Song” is an interesting piece of synthesizer work. The Deluxe Edition includes the “Live at Glasgow, 1979” version of “Coming Up,” the impressively orchestrated “Blue Sway” (and a version without orchestration), the B-sides “Check My Machine” and “Secret Friend” in different edits and the maniacal workout, “Mr. H Atom / You Know I’ll Get You Baby” where McCartney turns into Gary Numan.

One Musician is Enough

As long as that musician is Paul McCartney! What a super cool album. After nearly a decade with Wings, Paul retreated the his studio and produced a creative masterpiece. Songs like One of These Days and Waterfalls are beautiful, melodic introspects while Summer's Dream, Temporary Secretary, Nobody Knows and the legendary rocker Coming Up bid farewell to the 70s and usher in the 80s. As simple and pure as McCartney is, McCartney II holds is own and is considerably more adventurous than its predecessor. If you want a love to last forever, one that will never fade away, I want to help you with you problem... Download Macca II today!

Out of all the former Beatles, Paul McCartney by far had the most successful solo career, maintaining a constant presence in the British and American charts during the '70s and '80s. In America alone, he had nine number one singles and seven number one albums during the first 12 years of his solo career.
