Editors’ Notes

Until 2008, tenor Andrea Bocelli alternated between operatic and classical crossover/adult pop albums. Incanto expands his repertoire significantly. Comprised of Neapolitan songs from the mid-19th century through the 20th century, it’s the pop music of an earlier era, previously recorded by the likes of Enrico Caruso. (It’s also the soundtrack to much of the Tuscan native’s own childhood.) “Un Amore Cosi Grande” is an ideal showcase for Bocelli's charismatic voice, with Veronica Berti‘s uplifting soprano and Fausto Mesolella’s delicate classical guitar providing deft accompaniment. There’s a palpable joy to “Mamma” in both his delivery and in the horn- and woodwind-infused orchestral arrangement. Perry Como had a hit with “Because” in 1947; Bocelli's interpretation is grander and more emotive. For the enchanting “Era De Maggio,” he has an ideal duet partner in mezzo-soprano Anna Bonitatibus, while “Non Ti Scordar Di Me” evokes Naples with an angelic-sounding assist from the Italian Swiss Radio Choir.

Great Work!

Two thoughts for the bigot who commented that no one in America listens to Italian music. One, there are actually a LOT of Andrea Bocelli fans in the US. Two, in case you weren't aware, there is a world outside of the United States and I-tunes is available other places, too. Bocelli is fantastic, and this is another phenomenal effort!

Impressed.

I have never been a fan of Andrea Bocelli, but for the first time, he has impressed me. He has never sounded more confident, more assured than on this recording. He has finally pulled back on the distractingly heavy vibrato, and his voice is fuller and richer. While there are certainly better singers out there, I will definitely be recommending "Incanto" to my customers at Barnes & Noble.

Wonderful CD!!!!!!!

In canto is a CD of classic Italian love songs (Naples) and are many songs that Andrea has loved since childhood and most of us are familiar with. These songs were made famous by the great tenors of the 19th and 20th centuries, . In canto song selection includes Mamma; O surdato 'nammurato , Era di maggio , Un amore cosi grande , Non ti scordar di me; Funiculi Funicula; Granada, Voglio vivere cosi, Santa Lucia, Pulcinella, Non ti scordar di me, Marechiare, Vieni sul mar, Because, E vui durmiti ancora, Amapola, Un amore cosi grande. It is a wonderful selecton and I love the inclusion of Because, which I have heard Andrea sing live many times, It is the best version since Mario Lanza, and belive it or not Bocelli hits an even higher end note. You will enjoy all the songs hear they are wonderfully done.

Often called "the fourth tenor," Andrea Bocelli has established himself as an enduring international star in both classical and pop music. A disciple of Luciano Pavarotti and Zucchero Fornaciari, the blind, Tuscany-born vocalist emerged as one of the most exciting voices in contemporary opera during the late 20th century. His participation in Pavarotti's 1992 hit "Miserere" and Fornaciari's 1993 world tour helped propel him to international attention. Opera represented only one side of his musical...
