Album Review

While he made many groundbreaking singles, Kurtis Blow was never a consistent album artist, making this best-of collection his definitive artistic statement. Throughout the early '80s, Blow helped define what rap could do, and these tracks confirm his status as one of hip-hop's legendary acts.

The Oakland Raiders and a brand new Stair-Ree-U

Back in the day Kurtis Blow was it. Couldn't be a party without Kurtis Blow. Rap back in those days was about having fun and partying. It was the background music and Kurtis had the tight bass and beat that made you want to dance. But that was only one side of Kurtis Blow. Back when most of America had little knowledge of what the inner city black ghetto was, his musical observations of inner city life and his social commentary gave us a non-threatening view into that world. This CD covers what could be considered his most popular work.
