Two Atlanta rappers who've both been around for a while as solo artists, Stat Quo and Bobby Creekwater recently joined forces as FUPM (F*ck You Pay Me) and seriously impress with their debut collabo album. Years ago, both were signed to Eminem's Shady Records and were featured on Em's 2006 compilation The Re-Up; then they independently dropped several albums (most recently The Day It All Made Sense and Statlanta). Though they still occasionally rock a few modern rap production clichés, for the most part they present listeners with a refreshingly unique production style, overflowing with trippy sound effects, minimalist drum programming, and intergalactic keyboard meanderings. Lyrically, both sound better than ever, dropping wordy verses about life, love, intoxication, and hip-hop over the futuristic beatscapes. It's much weirder (in a good way) than you might expect; this is especially recommended for fans of early OutKast. Check out "New School, Old School," "Blast Off," and "Dope Out My Window."
