Notas editoriales de iTunes

Following two well-received EPs, Lush released Gala, the gorgeous full-length that turned them into one of the most beloved British bands of their era. In both sound and title, “Sweetness and Light” is emblematic of their aesthetic. While My Bloody Valentine offered typhoons of guitar that crashed over listeners with majestic fury, Lush lifted up their listeners into a cumulus cloud of soft-hued moisture. They weren’t as ethereal as they were made out to be—as proven by the restless hit “De-Luxe”—but they found ways to be soothing without ever becoming lethargic.

Exceptional, especially for a compilation.

My love for Lush, and this record inparticular, came from a deep desire to find and listen to something beautiful. Around the early 90's I became tired of listening to the abrasive and cathartic clatter of Black Flag, Psychic TV and Dead Kennedys. I knew I needed something different, but I hadn't a clue as to what I should have been listening for/to. Then one day I heard "Gala", with its etheriel melodies and luxurious distortion, and instantly had one of those "this is it!" moments. The first couple of bars of "Sweetness and Light", with its shimmering guitars and sun-drenched female vocals was all I need to become hooked. After hearing "Etheriel", I was on my way to Tower Records to purchase this record on tape (which I promplty wore-out.) "Gala" was a gateway "album" of sorts, and I would go on to purchase records by My Bloody Valentine, Ride and Chapterhouse. While "Gala" is actually a compilation Lush's first four Ep's, it will always remain the album that turned my world around and allowed a little beauty to shine a light in this sad bastard's soul.

Once again I-Tunes drops the ball

'Gala' gets 5 stars, definitely, but here is yet another case where a band's best album is conspicuously absent from I-Tunes (I don't include 'Gala' because it's technically a compilation). Where is 'Spooky?' Bad I-Tunes. no gold star for you.

Superb... Simply superb

A lot of great bands came out in the late 80's-mid 90's that were, alas, overlooked and ignored by the fickle public. LUSH was one of these bands. By far one of the most innovative, original, and unusual offerings from this era, their music in many ways defies genres. Haunting, melodious, etheric, filled with mystery and verve yet always with a hint of melancholic longing... With the lone exception of the grating "Baby Talk" this is some of the most beautiful music you will ever hear. Buy it. You will never regret it.

Meshing dreamy, feedback-drenched guitars with airy, catchy melodies, Lush were one of the most prominent shoegazing bands of the early '90s. Led by guitarists Miki Berenyi and Emma Anderson, the British band earned a cult following within the British and American undergrounds with its first EPs, yet the group never quite attained the critical respect given to its peers My Bloody Valentine and Ride. Even so, Lush lasted longer than any other of their contemporaries (with the exception of the Boo...
