More Malice

More Malice

The supplement to Snoop’s 2009 Malice ‘N Wonderland, More Malice is 39 minutes of additional Snoop in the form of five new tracks and three remixes. The premier rapper of the past fifteen years uses his sultry, laid-back delivery to subtly dominate the chessboard. The Kings G-Mix of “I Wanna Rock,” with Jay-Z, is the sound of hip-hop crafting a doomsday backbeat and a Greek chorus of eerie chants, while the Travis Barker G-Mix adds extra beats and its own haunted hangover to the spooky creep. “Gangsta Luv” from the album is given a Mayer Hawthorne G-Mix with added keyboards and a smooth R&B recasting. Among the new tracks, “Protocol” adds an extra bite as Snoop takes aim at unnamed critics. “House Shoes” gently taps its way through the darkness. “That Tree,” featuring Kid Cudi, adds a dizzying riff and a silky, hummable chorus that turns it into a pop tune. “You’re Gonna Luv Me” has the sound of a great b-movie film noir. Not an essential Snoop album, More Malice is an interesting side-trek for those enamored with his every beat and word.
