iTunes Review

This album's title track turned into a surprise hit that gave Rick Nelson his first Top 10 tune in a decade (and his last), a mellow but wry account of a rock 'n' roll oldies concert gone awry due to former teen idol Nelson's new country-rock sound and longhaired look. The album alternates between laid-back tunes (like "Nighttime Lady" and the aforementioned smash) and harder-hitting rockers ("I Wanna Be with You," Chuck Berry's "I'm Talking About You")—but the whole record embodies the early-'70s L.A. country-rock aesthetic. It's a great showcase for Nelson's Stone Canyon Band as one of the best on the SoCal hippie-cowboy scene.

Don't think this all there is

If you ever get a chance to find Rick's remake of the Bob Dylan classic "I shall be released", you will really like it if you enjoy folk/rock bands such as The Eagles. The Stone Canyon Band is great in that song. It's on another CD that iTunes doesn't have -- at least not at the time of my posting this review.

Really great

This is a really great album. All of the music is incredibly beautiful, and his voice is so much more soothing than the earlier Ricky Nelson songs, even though the old ones are amazing too. I really reccomend this album. Even the cover is spectacular! I really love this picture of him. This is a must for a Rick Nelson fan.

Garden Party

Every time the song Garden Party plays on iTunes, my 20-month old daughter runs to the baby gate, holds her arms up and wants to dance to with me. Not a bad way to spend Father's day.

Rick Nelson was one of the very biggest of the '50s teen idols, so it took awhile for him to attain the same level of critical respectability as other early rock greats. Yet now the consensus is that he made some of the finest pop/rock recordings of his era. Sure, he had more promotional push than any other rock musician of the '50s; no, he wasn't the greatest singer; and yes, Elvis, Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins, and others rocked harder. But Nelson was extraordinarily consistent during the first five...
