Album Review

When he was recording his debut album in 2006, Chris Daughtry didn't have the time to assemble the real rock band he clearly wanted, so it appeared under the band name DAUGHTRY without featuring any of the musicians who later became part of the group. That's not the case with Leave This Town: all five members appear on the album cover, serving as visual evidence that DAUGHTRY is a band, not a person. Such reminders may be necessary because Leave This Town doesn't differ much in feel or form from DAUGHTRY. Daughtry and his band have no desire to make anything other than good, basic, black-and-white modern rock and they do so efficiently on Leave This Town, a sophomore album that's every bit as satisfying as the first.

Pretty good

Well... If you bought the deluxe version on iTunes like I did, you already have What We Have Become, On the Inside, and Traffic Light (which is one of my favorite songs), so this EP only has 3 new songs. But, in true Daughtry fashion, they're incredible. It's really hard for Daughtry to make a song that I don't like, hahahah.

Building on his start as one of the most popular finalists of American Idol's fifth season, Chris Daughtry's post-Idol career spanned the archetypal modern rock of his early albums to the folk- and dance-tinged territory of 2010s albums such as Baptized. Where Bo Bice proved that American Idol could have a rocker as a finalist, Chris Daughtry proved that the show could generate a successful rocker outside the context of the show. Of course, it helped that he was the polar opposite of Bice, a shaggy...
