Album Review

The members of this Minneapolis quintet are restless spirits. Their music is a butterfly that alights in various climates. One minute they're off-kilter psych-pop, with strange reverberations that make you queasy like My Bloody Valentine (only not from guitar volumes); the next they're electronic dance-rock with guitars and organs that nibble, bubble, sputter, dance, and dart near faraway pop vocals, like the standout "Armoured Cars" — think a drunken Radiohead covering Franz Ferdinand. Then they're blooping '80s synth pop ready to challenge Depeche Mode. Then they're Solid Gold Gang of Four (hmmm...). It's all very good, and it isn't like everyone else — just hope they don't confuse the crowd so much they don’t catch on. ~ Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover, Rovi

Appalachian Tease

This album is an intrinsically lucid complex maneuver between antidote and disease. It creeps into your mind with ease and excitement, transforming the movement of your body. After the first four tracks the listener is so engaged they are often seen trying to swim upstream in the middle of the road or on their couch. Once you've heard Synchronize your eyes will begin to change color every ten seconds and the lobes in your brain will begin to fuse together until you are one step away from enlightenment and super natural powers. This album is therefore light years ahead of its time.

Gorgeously woozy electro-pop

I've been waiting for this one for quite awhile and it doesn't disappoint. A beautiful and stunning debut.

Minnesota's MGMT

Slick indie electro poppers Matt Locher and Zach Coulter of Solid Gold met in college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2000. They were introduced when a mutual friend at the school was putting together a group. The three made an EP as Solid Gold before that friend was replaced by Adam Hurlburt in 2004. With the new foundation set, the trio relocated to Minneapolis in 2005 and got respective day jobs as a cook, a wine salesman, and a bartender, as they gigged and prepped their first full...
