Editors’ Notes

It took My Bloody Valentine 22 years to release a follow-up to Loveless, so maybe it shouldn’t be such a big deal that it took Cheatahs five years to release their debut album after a series of early EPs. (What causes shoegaze-influenced bands to take so long making their records is known only to them.) But if you come across this self-titled debut on your own, you’ll be plenty pleased to hear songs like “IV,” “Northern Exposure," and “Mission Creep” flow forth from your speakers. “Get Tight” reveals a love for Dinosaur Jr. and Mudhoney in its tough, rolling fuzzed-out sound. The four-piece London-based group (composed of small-town Canadian guitarist Nathan Hewitt, engineer/bassist Dean Reid, drummer Marc Raue, and guitarist James Wignall) capture a myriad of moods throughout the album while maintaining a powerful level of glorious noise. Tunes like “The Swan” and ”Fall” prove they’ve come into their own as writers and as a first-rate band.

as if Ride and Swervedriver had an awesome baby. i don't get the mbv comparisons because you can actually deciper the vocals/lyrics. a great, strong album.

Must buy , best of 2014!

What i hate about every other band I listen to lately is that they aren't these guys.
This album is the best thing out there right now, give it a spin, your ears will love you for it.

It's good!

This album works for me. Cool lyrics goin' down with that Jesus & Mary Chain vibe. Get it!

Originally conceived as a solo bedroom project in 2009, Cheatahs is the brainchild of guitarist and vocalist Nathan Hewitt. Having left his birthplace of Morinville, a small town on the outskirts of Edmonton, Canada, Hewitt ended up in London, where he spent some time as a guitarist in the group Little Death. The lo-fi ethic of Little Death carried over into his solo project, which began with the nostalgic sound of "Warrior," released on 7" by Young and Lost Club, before Hewitt put Cheatahs on hold...
