BEST BROADWAY SHOW OF 2012
This theatrical show has raised the bar of what can be done on stage with special effects. The score is beautiful, haunting and magical. The leads are a force to be reckoned with with such powerful ballads and emotional lyrics. BELIEVE IN GHOST THE MUSICAL.
Some stand out hits but a little forgettable
I'm going to get unliked so much for this review. But I thought the show was whatever mostly due to the set. The ugly LED projections throughout the entire show are unnecessary and just make each scene look tacky and ultra frantic. It's a beautiful technical achievement but they should use it sparingly.
Secondly I felt the songs were on the whole lacking. I really hated the song I'm Outta Here. Why did it even need to be there? And Focus is barely a song. Nice in theory but ugly in execution. They should have consulted Lin Manuel Miranda. And I truly hated the song More. So annoying. And to have it creep up in other songs is unfortunate.
However the standouts for me are Unchained Melody (great fun take on the classic), With You (ah-mazing and sooo beautifully sung), and Are You a Believer (though it's more fun live).
The special effects are the reason to see the show. I still don't know how some of the tricks were done. Crazy.
Ghost is flawless
This musical is one of the best shows I've seen in a while. This cast album, despite not specifying any longer, is still the London version, though there are only minor differences between this and what is now playing on Broadway. While I'm disappointed that an entire song was deleted from the album (probably due to the fact it was changed for the Broadway production), this does not take away from the album as a whole. The music varies where necessary, upbeat and energetic for one song and slowly breaking your heart the next. It really makes you feel what the characters are feeling as opposed to just hearing it. As for the show itself, it really is a must-see. Not a single cast member disappoints, and the special effects are breathtaking.
If you can't go see the show, definitely buy the album, because you'll still be absolutely blown away by this cast and the way the songs are arranged. And if you can see the show, do, and then buy the album so you can relive it over and over and over. I'm speaking from experience when I say that you'll want to immediately. :)
