iTunes Review

On Ghosts Upon the Earth, Gungor approaches the story of the world’s fall and redemption with fresh eyes and an adventurous spirit. Michael and Lisa Gungor may sing in subdued, almost murmuring tones, but the message they express is alive with awestruck joy, honoring the Creator in deeply personal, mystically-tinged language. Together with their band mates, they embellish their idiosyncratic style of liturgical folk/rock with bluegrass instrumental flourishes, shimmering orchestral strings and surging techno beats. “Crags and Clay,” “You Are the Beauty” and “Brother Moon” are prime examples of Gungor’s eclectic, multi-layered approach, far removed from the typical arena-pop bombast of modern praise music. Particularly outstanding are “Let There Be” (built around a soaring choir and an oscillating electronica groove) and “Wake Up Sleeper” (framing Lisa’s earnest vocals with skittering, jazz-tinged violins). At once otherworldly and immediate, Ghosts Upon the Earth is the sort of quirky yet compelling worship project that Christian music could use more of.

Oh, Gungor Album, what shall I compare thee to?

I don't want to over hype this album... but I serious think it is as if Handel met mumford and sons and they decided to collaborate and have sufjan steven's produce the album with special quests such as Bela fleck and the gang from Nickle Creek. And then dip that all in organic dark chocolate and ingest it next to a warm fire on a brisk autumn day... so yeah... pretty freakin good!

Really nothing like it

I have her gungor since his early years . Playing with isreal houghton and writing gospel songs. It really is incredible to see how much this band has transformed. Everything about this music is deep spiritually , musically , and just incredibly written. To not buy this Album is a big mistake. This is the music people should be supporting! Im so tired of the same progressions in every lady gaga and katey perry song. 10/10 for me.

Organic and original. Brilliant!

Gungor's new album has far surpassed the expectations of those both in the secular music realm and christian music realm. This band transcends that fine line between the two music worlds and unites unprecedented musicianship with ethereal tones and resonant lyricism. The music is imaginative and beautiful by all definition. From beginning to end, this album is an experience to be had by anyone aching for something quiet and tangible to touch their soul. "Ghosts Upon the Earth" is rich and heavy like moist soil, fresh and teeming with life. A true masterpiece.

Genre: Alternative

Gungor are a baroque pop, folk, and experimental rock-influenced collective centered on the husband-and-wife duo of Michael and Lisa Gungor. Although Gungor grew out of a Christian musical background and have often included spiritual concepts in their music, they do not consider themselves a CCM band. Raised in Wisconsin, Michael spent his formative years leading worship services with his pastor father. He attended Oral Roberts University (where he first met fellow musician Lisa) and later studied...
