iTunes Review

If The Immaculate Collection was a celebration of seven years of radio hits, GHV2 (released 11 years later in 2001) proved that Madonna hadn’t yet been relegated to famous-for-being-famous status. Over the ‘90s, she’d grown even more daring in her persona and her eclectic approach to music. She was capable of igniting the populace with a huge Streisand-style ballad (Babyface’s “Take a Bow”) or an inescapably catchy dance tune (“Ray of Light”). And don’t forget soundtrack contributions such as “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina” (from Evita) and “Beautiful Stranger” (from Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me). That the latter was one of her brighter, deeper singles ever was proof that as the ‘90s ended, she wasn’t slowing down at all.

I've got an explanation to why American Pie and Live to Tell are absent...

..."American Pie" is not on here because a stupid record exec twisted Madonna's arm into putting it on the "Music" album (overseas only), so to "punish" it, it was not included here. "Live to Tell" is probably not on here because it was on the ballad collection "Something to Remember". However, I have absolutely no idea why "Nothing Really Matters", one of her biggest club hits, isn't on here, or why a lot of the tracks are edited. If only iTunes would get "GHV2 Remixed" or the Thunderpuss/Johnny Vicious/Mac Quayle/Tracy Young "GHV2 Megamixes"!

Great greatest hits album, but missing some songs...

I have this GHV2 album and it's greatt, but she's missing a lot of songs... she should have made it a 2 disk greatest hits album with the collection of all her songs... but it's a great album I think she's re-invented in many great ways and is doing incredible for an artist from 3 decades ago!! Keep up the good work Madonna! (They should have also added some famous remixes) Ray of Light is the best!

Great Compilation, but lacking...

GHV2 is a good mix of some of Madonna's later material. I think she really evolved as an artist later on, and has made a lot of incredible music that was never released as singles. There are quite a few tracks missing though that make this compilation seem a little more naked than Madonna in her sex book to me. From Erotica, Rain is missing. Drowned Word appears (largely due to it's sucess in the UK) but Nothing Really Matters is absent. Soundtrack hits American Pie and I'll Remember are also missing, and one of my Erotica favorites "Fever" is missing as well. But it's still a great album, but I think people who don't own her later albums in full are really missing out. I also guess that missing tracks from GH2 and the Immaculate Collection leave room for the inevitable third installment. These are also radio version and edits for the most part.

After stars reach a certain point, it's easy to forget what they became famous for and concentrate solely on their personas. Madonna is such a star. She rocketed to stardom so quickly in 1984 that it obscured most of her musical virtues. Appreciating her music became even more difficult as the decade wore on, as discussing her lifestyle became more common. However, one of Madonna's greatest achievements is how she has manipulated the media and the public with her music, her videos, her publicity,...
