EDITORS’ NOTES

Much in the way of their superstar labelmates Migos, Miami-native duo City Girls have been forced to start a man down. Just as Migos were absent Offset upon release of the Drake-assisted “Versace” remix, Girl Code—which follows their life-changing inclusion on Drake’s “In My Feelings”—comes as the group’s JT serves out a jail sentence related to fraudulent credit card charges, leaving Yung Miami to hold down the fort. The album is still a team effort (Girl Code was completed before JT’s sentence began) and a seamless continuation of the themes of its predecessor, Period. The duo continues to hit licks, dodge broke suitors, and enjoy great sex. Boasting sharp bars and even sharper wit, City Girls clearly realize the urgency of their moment.
