For Sophisticated Ears and Eyes

In a world of mediocrity it's unusual for a movie with such a tasteful subject and artful execution to be made. Accompanied by and elegant and moving soundtrack the two comprise a true cinematic classic. I would caution, it's only for people who value quality, craftsmanship and inspiration. The intellectually challenged need not concern themselves with this offering.

Beautiful, lilting score

Alexandre Desplat is one of those composers like Patrick Doyle, Kerry Muzzey or Gustavo Santoalla that I would really love to hear more of these days. This music is beautiful, expansive, lilting, and haunting... truly a must for any lover of instrumental, filmscore, or classical music.

Intriguing, subtle music

The soundtrack easily matches the tense yet quiet plotline of the story and movie. In order to create a sense of mystique and historicism, most pieces seem to be in the minor key. Seldom does the music peak above a mezzo-piano. It is quiet and peaceful--something useful in the background while you read, study, or relax. Many of the tracks tend to repeat familiar themes almost to the point of redundancy, yet the themes are captivating and mysterious. Even the use of piano is able to contribute to the strings and add a feeling of baited-breath enchantment.
