About Decorations

Decorations is an indie pop project founded by songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist Devon Geyer, who describes his music as "new wave without all the sadness." Born and raised in North Hollywood, California, Geyer showed a keen musical talent early on. At the age of four, he started picking out tunes on an acoustic guitar, and by the time he was 12, he was sitting in with his father's blues band at weekend gigs. At 14, Geyer began writing songs, and he put together a makeshift recording studio to record his increasingly eclectic compositions. Geyer released four D.I.Y. albums under the moniker Clark!, and also recorded and produced a handful of indie releases for other local musicians. When he was 17, Geyer was awarded a scholarship to Boston's Berklee College of Music. While Geyer worked with several bands in the Boston area after graduating from Berklee -- including Tea Not War, This Is How Rumors Get Started, and the Anymen, none of them took off, and eventually Geyer found himself back in California. With his career in neutral, his love life a shambles after a recent breakup, and lacking a working automobile, Geyer began writing songs that reflected his current malaise, and that of many of his friends. In time, Geyer began posting his songs online under the name Decorations, and his music came to the attention of indie label Frenchkiss Records. In September 2015, Frenchkiss released the debut EP from Decorations, Girls, and the three-song release earned plenty of buzz and positive press. The first full-length Decorations album, Have Fun, followed in June 2016. ~ Mark Deming
