Album Review

After spending some time exploring her Cuban roots and traditional pop, Gloria Estefan returned to straight-up dance-pop with the infectious Gloria! With its percolating disco beats and sunny melodies, the record recalls her glory days of the late '80s, but there is a stronger Latin rhythmic underpinning, which gives the music depth. Some of the songs themselves are slight, but most of them rank among her best uptempo songs and ballads, especially since her singing is better than ever. In fact, Gloria! proves that some dance-pop divas can get better — and more adventurous — with age.

One of the best dance albums of all time!

This album is just great!, is one of the best dance albums of all time, and it shows a Gloria very different from her 80's career, which was also dance, but another kind of dance music, this is more techo and club music, althought the album didn't receive the promotion as it should it is one of the favorites among Estefan fans, this album could be comparised as Madonna's "Confessions on a Dance Floor", Cher's "Believe" or Kylie Minogue's "Fever". I personally recommend this album, but if you like more Estefan's career on the 80's, probably you will not like this album, but however, you can try to hear it, probably you'll love it more than her previous as i did, the best songs of the album are: 1.-"Don't Let This Moment End" 2.-"Heaven's What I Feel" 3.-"Oye" 4.-"I Just Wanna Be Happy" 5.-"Don't Release Me"

In support of the other review here.....

This has to be one of the most overlooked, underrrated albums of all time--certainly the most unappreciated among Gloria Estefan's recordings. EVERY track is an instant party classic; it will appeal to both Gloria's Latino and non-Latino fans; and (let me emphasize this) it's easily the most coherent and consistent album of Gloria Estefan's career. All her other albums (barring only the Greatest Hits package) amount to three or four terrific tracks and a whole lot of filler, IMHO. This one is 100% pure joy.

This is one of my favorite CDs. I like every song on this CD. Full of rythm!

As one of the biggest new stars to emerge during the mid-'80s, singer Gloria Estefan predated the coming Latin pop explosion by a decade, scoring a series of propulsive dance hits rooted in the rhythms of her native Cuba before shifting her focus to softer, more ballad-oriented fare. Born Gloria Fajardo in Havana on September 1, 1957, she was raised primarily in Miami, Florida, after her father, a bodyguard in the employ of Cuban president Fulgencio Batista, was forced to flee the island following...
