Great Live Album!

The Dickies always put on a great show. If you have never had the pleasure of attending a live gig, you are missing out! No live recording could compare to seeing the band in person, of course. But this truly is a great live punk rock album. Much better sound quality than "We Aren't the World," another live album by The Dickies I bought way back in the 80s. The sound quality is much better than nearly all of the live punk albums I've heard over the years. This set contains a good-sized portion of some of The Dickies' best tunes, covers, and some of their newer songs. This is a good album for longtime fans (like me) and for new fans who want to become familiar with The Dickies' music.

There is another reason to buy this album, a very special guest. That unmistakable backup vocalist is Olga from the Toy Dolls, who played bass guitar for The Dickies on this tour. For the punk aficianado (and the wannabe), I consider this live album to be a necessity.

Not Memorex...It's Live

This is a live album. Too bad the LP versions are not available as MP3 downloads anywhere. Lots of funtastic songs here, but you need to know that they're live versions of your favorite Dickes songs of old. While I would really love to see The Dickies live and love their recorded works, I don't think their live recordings are as thrilling as the studio recorded stuff. Strange that a band that is probably fantastic live and probably most suited to live performances doesn't translate well to live recordings. Fun band. Really fun band!! Now let's hear those studio recordings, 'cause they're the best!

Biography

Formed: 1977 in Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s

The Dickies were the clown princes of punk, not to mention surprisingly longstanding veterans of the L.A. scene. In fact, by the new millennium, they'd become the oldest surviving punk band still recording new material. In contrast to the snotty, intentionally offensive humor of many comedically inclined punk bands, the Dickies were winningly goofy, inspired mostly by trashy movies and other pop culture camp. Their covers were just as ridiculous as their originals, transforming arena rock anthems...
