Reseña de álbum

Death metal with some melody? Can it be? As evidenced by Amon Amarth's 2006 release, With Odin on Our Side, this dream seems to be a reality early on. On the album opening "Valhall Awaits Me," singer Johan Hegg's vocal lines aren't merely growled syllables. But don't be worried, longtime Amarth fans, it's not like the Swedish outfit has enlisted the help of Burt Bacharach to soften things up, as Hegg's vocals do resort back to the expected death metal growl soon enough, especially on such tracks as "Under the Northern Star." Yet all the while, Hegg manages to hold his own against the riffs and sometimes-Iron Maiden-esque guitar harmonies supplied by Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg. The aforementioned guitar duo also shows they have a talent for penning industrial strength riffs as well, evidenced by such tracks as "Hermods Ride to Hell" and "Runes to My Memory." Nothing remarkably new here, but for admirers of death metal with some added muscle, With Odin on Our Side shows that Amon Amarth continue to be champions of the worldwide death metal tournament.

Polished, Brutal, Epic

All words that could easily be used to describe the latest offering from Amon Amarth. WITH ODEN ON OUR SIDE (Metal Blade, 2006) is nearly forty-three minutes of monumental melodic death metal. Moving into a new studio and utilizing the talents of a fine producer (Jens Bogren - Opeth, Soilwork) proved worthwhile for the Viking warriors. This record has a much more consistent feel than 2004’s FATE OF NORNS or 2002’s VERSUS THE WORLD. Bogren’s knob twisting adds a certain sheen to this record that makes it a must for headphone listening. The album opens with the driving crusher “Valhall Awaits Me”. Johan Hegg’s gravelly bellow is amazingly easy to understand and draws the listener into the unfolding battle. The thunderous drums and amazing guitar tones had me reaching to up the volume before getting to the first chorus. Other up-tempo highlights on this gem are “Asator”, a straight up speedster that tips the horned-helmet to the band’s Swedish death metal lineage, and “Runes to My Memory” a swift galloping ride into the next world. “Hermod’s Ride to Hell”, “Cry of the Blackbirds”, and the title track fall squarely into the AA hymns of majesty category. Proud The ability to continually create meaningful, relevant music from the same set of overriding themes is one element that sets AA apart from pack. Do yourself a favor and pick up one of the best sounding metal albums of 2006.

Absolutely Amazing!

It's amazing how far Amon Amarth have come in a relatively short period. Every album seems to carve out it's own little piece of metal history, and then the next album comes and blows even more people away. This album is nothing short of perfection. Every Amon Amarth album has it's own themes and sound, this album is no different. There is no reason to point out how much it cost, it is worth every penny. In fact, you should sell your soul to own this album. It's worth it.

Doesn't get much better!!!!

I have been listening to this band for about 4 years now and they are who got me into metal. I can't say enough about this band. Their stories are all awesome and I believe when I read a few years ago about them, they're stories all based off of Viking legends. This album has no shortage of great stories and music that will get you pumped! If you don't like metal or never really listened to it before, buy this album and just listen to it. If great guitar, bass, drums and vocals get you going, you will not be disappointed!
