Album Review

AOR lives! And in Finland, of all places, thanks to melodic rock traditionalists Brother Firetribe — a regular side project of Nightwish guitarist Emppu Vuorinen and Leverage singer Pekka Heino, that released its second full-length, Heart Full of Fire, in 2008. A throwback in every sense of the word, the album's 11 tracks pulse with the same familiar combination of catchy choruses, muscular guitar riffs, anthemic synthesizer melodies, and sparkling clean production values that original genre purveyors like Journey, REO Speedwagon, and Foreigner (to name but a few) ruled the airwaves with in the early '80s, but which haven't really dented the American charts since Giant's early-'90s attempts. Yet, AOR (which could stand for "all over the road") has continued to thrive selectively across the world over the years, and especially in Europe and Japan, where Heart Full of Fire standouts like "Wildest Dreams," "Runaways," and perfectly coiffed power ballad "Play It from the Heart" (featuring guest vocals from Nightwish siren Anette Onzon) will probably benefit from single releases and major promotional pushes, believe it or not. And why not? Any band knowledgeable and passionate enough (never mind ballsy enough) about their chosen musical style to cover Loverboy singer Mike Reno's obscure non-hit "Chasing the Angels" (from the Iron Eagle 2 soundtrack ferchrisake!) deserve respect for convictions. So too, do unrepentant AOR fans worldwide, who have one of their biggest champions of the new millennium in Brother Firetribe.

AN INSTANT CLASSIC! WOW!

It's rare to find an album where EVERY SONG sounds like a really catchy hit single but this album is really that good! Brother Firetribe are the best band for playing the energetic uplifting melodic hard rock style that was the landmark sound of the 80s! Seriously, this sounds like a lost 80s 'Best Of' compilation! Brother Firetribe are the perfect ANTIDOTE to all of the crass and negative modern rock! If you like this album then track down their earlier LP 'False Metal' and you'll find another modern classic! Man, I hope this band NEVER breaks up!

A Blast!

Fantastic from start to finish. Refreshing take on that awesome 80's style rock. In case you wonder why the singer sounds so familiar, it appears he is also the lead singer for LEVERAGE. This album contains fantastic harmonious vocals, great keyboard work, and overall it is simply a blast to listen to. I promise this one is going to be a keeper.... Enjoy!

Awesome album

Fantastic 2nd album by this Finnish group. If you like 80's bands like Survivor, Giant, and Giuffria you'll absolutely love these guys. Every song is a throwback to the 80's cruisin' down the beach in your T-top trans-am blaring the stereo and checking out the babes. Vocalist Pekka Heino has ultra smooth vocals and is also the singer for harder edged Leverage (another awesome band). The guitarist is Emppu Vuorinen who makes this album soar. He is also the guitarist for ultra-awesome Nightwish. Glad to see this album on iTunes. Their first album was entitled False Metal but is being re-released as Break Out. I'm hopeful the iTunes will add it when re-released. It actually is better than this one.

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s

An AOR band from Finland, Brother Firetribe first came into being in 2002. Influenced by the glory days of such stadium rock giants as Journey and Van Halen coupled with the glam of such acts as Skid Row, Brother Firetribe (the name itself a rather complicated in-joke involving Finnish tennis and heavy metal) were known in their early days as False Metal. Eventually opting for a name change, Brother Firetribe signed a deal with Spinefarm Records. The band would then use its early moniker as inspiration...
