iTunes Review

Arguably the first Asian-American solo rapper to blow up in the States, Jin hit the scene in 2001, dominating "Freestyle Friday" battles on 106 & Park and earning a deal with Ruff Ryders, who were at the absolute height of their powers. His debut single, "Learn Chinese," recycled a classic Das EFX beat and costarred Wyclef. Then his first album, The Rest Is History, finally dropped in the fall of 2004. In the meantime, he added acting to his résumé and appeared in the first 2 Fast 2 Furious film. After lackluster album sales, he parted ways with RR and went the indie route. Ever since, he's steadily been releasing under-the-radar material (The Emcee's Proper?Ganda, I Promise, ABC, and more). Brand New Me is his third EP of 2012, and it finds him reflecting on his career, showing his love for the ladies, and giving props to the Lord over a half-dozen shiny pop beats. Though it's a far cry from his early battle-tested material, there's still some good stuff here. Most notable are "State of Mind," "Feel Good," and the title track.

Jin is creating music to inspire fans as he re-defines himself as an artist!

For those unfamiliar with MC Jin, he is street-acclaimed from Miami to NYC to Hong Kong and back! First finding mainstream fame on 106 and Park’s Freestyle Friday which resulted in a record deal with Ruff Ryders which made him the first East Asian and Chinese solo rapper ever to be signed to a major record label! A few years ago, Jin refocused his life as a Christian and is using his talent and fame to put Christ on display! I really admire his new stance and even how his is approaching his career on Brand New Me!

I really love the title track with the so smooth vibe and Going Places which is a little more rugged. More importantly, I'm loving the depth of Jin's reasoning over the whole EP culminating on “State of Mind” where he breaks down how he is now using his music to inspire his fans as he re-defines himself as an artist! All and all it is a great EP from a great artist!

Keep up the good work, Jin!

Whatever which Jin that is, the only one or the brand new one, they both my biggest role model! Keep that positivity to make this world better!
