iTunes Review

This album is Mastered for iTunes. Rather than simply release a greatest hits collection to celebrate the 20 years that have passed since she broke through with Little Earthquakes, Tori Amos revisits her catalog with these recordings with the Metropole Orchestra. Essentially, she covers her own songs here, treating them as new mysteries with answers still to find. The orchestra, conducted by Jules Buckley, is tasteful, adding just the right amount of tension and drama to Amos' grand performances. While this album could be two or three times its actual length and still be leaving out something worth revisiting, the choices are inspired, bringing new hues to "Yes, Anastasia," "Jackie's Strength," "Winter" and "Marianne" just for starters. Amos' gorgeous musicality is present throughout. The Deluxe Version adds "Maybe California," videos for "Flavor" and "Gold Dust," and a short documentary on the making of the video for "Flavor."

Tori has matured...you havn

This album is beautiful. Sure, it's a re-orchestration of songs spanning her amazing career. Nobody has tried to hide that from anybody.

If you mumble on and on about how it's not Earthquakes....well, that was so 20 years ago. Hopefully, those that comment negatively, in that manner, are not angst ridden adults as they were teens?

Grow up and don't expect Tori to relive your youth for you with each new album.

A Total Irrelevant Album

Each creative decision Tori Amos has made since American Doll Posse, has inched her closer to irrelevancy. It's really sad. Every track on this disaster is better when heard in its original form. Don't waste your time. I hope there is still that creative fire left in Tori but as the years go on and her albums get more tiresome and self indulgent, that hope dwindles.

eh

I love Tori. Have loved her since nearly the beginning. I don't think though she needs to reinvent her songs with orchestral accompaniment. It is not the same quality of how she reinvents her songs during concerts and the songs on this album are not varied as much as they could be.

Tori Amos (born Myra Ellen Amos) was one of several female singer/songwriters who combined the stark, lyrical attack of alternative rock with a distinctly '70s musical approach, creating music that fell between the orchestrated meditations of Kate Bush and the stripped-down poetics of Joni Mitchell. In addition, she revived the singer/songwriter traditions of the '70s while re-establishing the piano as a rock & roll instrument. With her 1992 album Little...
