EDITORS’ NOTES

On their sixth album, Christian alt-metal trio Red turn up the electronics, relying less on the orchestral elements that have helped define past releases. Opening with two of the album’s heaviest tracks—“Step Inside, the Violence” and “Still Alive”—Gone quickly switches gears to the dance-oriented grooves and R&B-style production of the title track before the band cranks out a rousing, unexpected cover of singer/songwriter Sia’s empowerment anthem “Unstoppable.” Meanwhile, sweeping ballads “Coming Apart” and “Singularity” feature nuanced, impassioned performances from vocalist Michael Barnes.
