Retrospective: The Best of the Knack

Though The Knack is best known for the iconic 1979 single "My Sharona," which remains one of the finest tunes of the new wave era, the group had a number of spectacularly catchy songs that feature both power and pop. While Get the Knack was a perfect album (and is represented here with four solid tracks), its successors were slightly less perfect. Most, though not all, of the later highlights are featured here. The "My Sharona" rewrite "Baby Talks Dirty" is good fun. The cover of The Kinks' "The Hard Way" is convincing. "Can't Put a Price on Love" is as close as a band can come to The Rolling Stones' "Beast of Burden." A cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Don't Look Back," a demo version of "Rocket O' Love," and highlights from the underrated Round Trip album ("Africa," "Another Lousy Day in Paradise," and "Pay the Devil") round this excellent sampler of a great rock 'n' roll band.
