Ratings and Reviews
The main thing that got me hooked on Owl City was his lyrics. They were creative, thought-provoking, full of subtle wordplay. Original, above all else. Now, since All Things Bright And Beautiful didn't sell as well as Ocean Eyes, Adam Young AKA Owl City is working with other songwriters (being forced to by his record company, I imagine). Songwriters such as Dr. Luke. Dr. Luke's main songwriting achievement is writing hit singles for Ke$ha and Katy Perry. Those names don't usually make you think of Owl City, right? Well, Dr. Luke's influence is seen throughout this entire song. Not only in production but in the lyrics. The only thing I could imagine Owl City writing was "Woke up on the right side of the bed" and "Good morning and good night/I wake up at twilight" everything else sounds exactly like a Dr. Luke production. Listing random things that happen so that you get things that rhyme, but they have very little meaning or originality. If anything, it reminds me of Last Friday Night by Katy Perry, another song of random lists that don't add up to mean anything. I never thought Owl City would stoop to saying such cliche lines as "hands up if you're down to get down tonight", but it has happened, thanks to Dr. Luke and company. Sad. I give two stars for catchiness.
Summer Song of 2012
I honestly thought Call Me Maybe was the summer 2012 song, but it just "officially" became summer and I'm almost sick of that song. Good Time, however, shows promise that this summer, we're going to have a good time. I think this song is catchy enough to bring these one-hit-wonder artists to No. 1 again. Wouldn't it be funny if Carly Rae J. bumped her own song out of no. 1? :D
What's with adam's "we don't even have to try" though? It sounds weird.
